Augmented Reality / Mixed Reality
Augmented Reality (AR) and Mixed Reality (MR) deal with the fusion of the real-world and computer-generated virtual reality. By offering completely new ways of multimodal interaction and navigation techniques they play a major role for innovative human-computer interaction. AR/MR opens up numerous new applications not only at the workplace, but also for edutainment, health, and for many other fields.
While AR is concerned with the use of live video imagery which is digitally processed and "augmented" by the addition of computer-generated graphics, MR also supports the interaction with real objects in immersive virtual environments. Additional features of AR/MR the use of motion tracking and the interpretation of sensor data for interaction with controlled environments containing any number of sensors and actuators.

Researchers all over the world are engaged in developing specific applications that meet various different requirements imposed by numerous scopes and possible scenarios. INI-GraphicsNet members are especially working at solutions for the medical sector (e.g. image guided surgery, ultrasound imaging), design, manufacturing, construction, maintenance, industrial design, edutainment, robotics etc.
