Ambient Intelligence

Complex functionalities are increasingly finding their way into the smallest everyday devices. In principle, these devices are capable of forming a networked ensemble and communicating and cooperating with each other. But many people feel overstrained to control and coordinate the variety of functions offered by these devices. Therefore, the objective of Ambient Intelligence (AmI) is to effectuate a major paradigm shift in the interaction between humans and technology. New AmI developments no longer focus on the purely functional interaction between humans and technology. Instead, the individual is embedded in an intelligent environment that guarantees proactive assistance and enables total natural multimodal interaction.

Ambient Intelligence is the concept of networked devices communicating with each other and following strategies in order to react intelligently to the user’s current situation, interaction, and goals. In order to achieve this, it is necessary to have distributed software infrastructures, which enable the self-organization of devices and their software components. Technological developments in the field of intelligent components, which are able to interpret situations and develop strategies regarding the functions to execute, are also necessary. In the broad field of context awareness and context management, we offer technology for location determination and identity recognition, which also meets the high demand for security.
